  5.    Overview

  8.     This program monitors and displays hardware parameters
  9. collected by the chips LM75/LM78/LM79 (or Winbond w83781d),
  10. installed on certain motherboards based on Intel chipsets
  11. HX,TX,LX,BX (i.e. - Asustek TX-97 family or A-Bit BX6).
  12.     Program can monitor voltages, temperatures of CPU and
  13. motherboard and cooler fans RPMs.
  14.     Program can be used under Windows 95/98 or NT operating
  15. systems on Intel-based personal computers.

  18.    Installation
  19.    ------------

  21.     There is no any additional installation for Windows 95.  Simply
  22. copy Hmonitor.exe to appropriate directory and run it.
  23.  
  24.     However, for use of Hmonitor.exe under Windows-NT you need
  25. to perform some additional steps. For performing this task
  26. you should be logged on as a member of administrators group.
  27.     First, copy file giveio.sys into system32\drivers
  28. subdirectory of your Windows NT directory.
  29.     Next, run loaddrv.exe and install recently copied driver into
  30. system.
  31.     Last, start it (by use of key "Start" in loaddrv).
  32.     After successfull startup of the driver, you can run
  33. Hmonitor.exe.  We advice you create shortcut for Hmonitor.exe in
  34. Startup folder, and, if you do so, also change startup type of
  35. device Giveio to "Automatic" through Control panel "devices"
  36. dialogue.

  39.     Settings

  42.     You can change several settings by use of control menu or
  43. popup menu for tray icon.  Also, you can hide unwanted
  44. information panels. All settings and window state/position saved
  45. automatically in the Registry.

  47.     Unfortunately, there is no standard for sensor addresses used,
  48. thus several vendors uses different addresses. If your mainboard
  49. is capable to measure CPU temperature, but Hmonitor don't display it,
  50. try to change LM75 addrs on "Hardware Data" page from "Settings"
  51. window. Also, look in mblist.txt file for your MB model.

  53.    Also, you can change any caption for Temperature/fan readings now.
  54. You can either press ellipsis button, and select some predefined values
  55. from the list, or type over string you want directly.

  60.     Warning messages produced by Hmonitor also logged in Windows
  61. application event log.  Standard EventViewer program can be used
  62. to examine it.

  65.     CPU temperature correction
  66.     --------------------------

  68.     The background is, there's some space (air) between the LM75
  69. CPU sensor and the actual CPU, and different brands have the CPU
  70. core placed on different positions (near the top, near the
  71. bottom) in the plastic CPU package.  So you have got to add a
  72. specific temperature value to compensate for this and correctly
  73. guess and display the inner value.
